The genesis of the Company was in March of 2000 when Todd Bol, the Company’s founder, began discussing the growing global nursing shortage with Sister Remy Angela Junio from St. Paul’s University in Manila, Philippines. Sister Remy told Mr. Bol of the Philippine’s rapid loss of nurses, including hospital middle management and educators, to developed countries. It became clear that the conventional international recruiting methods were unsustainable.
Together, Todd Bol and Sr. Remy, with input from nursing, church and educational leaders throughout the Philippines, conceived of a sustainable model for replenishing the world’s supply of nurses, nurse leaders, and nurse educators. They could not stop the exodus of nurses, but they could create an “ecologically sound” model that returned nurses to their home country as educators and leaders to help develop the next generation of nurses.
From this beginning, GSA has expanded its mission globally. Currently, GSA maintains a permanent scholar recruitment and education center in the Philippines and has initiated scholar recruitment initiatives in India, Canada, and the UK.
